Over 100 people joined members of The American Adventure Service Corps for an awesome evening of adventure and service. Thanks to everyone who attended! The Evergreen Community Charter School's gym swelled when over 100 adventurous spirits came to set a Guinness World Record for "most amount of people hanging from ropes at one time".
Members of the TAASC Morganton branch greeted the Asheville folks and instructed them in how to put on a climbing harness and to ascend fixed lines. It was wonderful to see TAASC members as young as 7 instructing adults on how to put on a harness and use carabiners and prussiks to travel up the rope.
To step back and see the gym full of people high in the air, literally hanging out, and enjoying themselves was a tremendous visual. It was very impressive to see whole families ascend the ropes, not just the kids. It gave a new definition to family bonding.
Once everyone was in the air, TAASC Executive Director Mike Fischesser started a count down from 60. With great cheering and fan fare the official count came in at 98 people. The number was sent off to Guinness World Record offices in London and time will tell if a record was set.
Another great accomplishment of the night was 148 pounds of food donated by attendees and delivered to the Manna Food Bank - thanks to all for your contributions!
Our Tuesday, May 16th deadline is coming up - please urge any families you know to sign up for TAASC so we can make this program's future a certainty! Tell folks that we are enrolling students for both a June 1st start as well as a September 1st start - in case their summer is already full.
